digiLab Contributes to UK Policy on Fusion Energy Through the Fusion Industry Taskforce
As a member of the Fusion Industry Taskforce, digiLab collaborates with engineers, supply chain and academia to provide AI advice and expertise for fusion policy advancement
The Fusion Industry Taskforce (FIT) is a specialist advisory group created to advise the UK government on fusion. Established in 2022, FIT aims to bring together the UK fusion industry by combining research and input from fusion suppliers, academia and government groups to speak with one consistent, independent voice to the Government.
The core objective of the FIT is to shape fusion policy by establishing a clear line of dialogue into key departments - the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, the Department for Business and Trade, HM Treasury and No.10/Cabinet Office.
What is digiLab's role in the FIT?
As experts in probabilistic AI, digiLab is working in the taskforce to advise the government on strategies to harness novel technologies for fusion. This includes policy to enable digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, which can both contribute to and benefit from fusion development. By highlighting the transformative impact of these technology advancements, digiLab is able to educate the fusion industry and help shape policies that foster innovation.
As part of this initiative, digiLab has attended several in-person discussions, alongside industry and academic experts, contributing valuable insights to guide the collaborative effort. These discussions underscore digiLab's commitment to driving innovation at the intersection of technology and policy.
